Turin 2006 Winter Olympics

Ceremonial giant.
Installed for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, the gigantic lamp appeared as if by magic when the curtain drew back and Luciano Pavarotti entered. But it did not descend from above; it rose and shifted, like a flight of light, and then placed itself at the center of the stage. The complex set machinery, made with an acrylic chain, has a diameter of 6 meters and was designed in collaboration with Jacopo Foggini and Roberto Bergonzi. The light sources are mounted on the circular metal crown, oriented to make the light flow along the whole spectacular cascade of chained rings.
